A MOTHER'S LOVE

MOTHER’S DAY IS THIS SUNDAY, MAY 10, 2020

A young boy came up to his mother in the kitchen one evening while she was fixing supper. He handed her a piece of paper that he had been writing on. After his Mom dried her hands on an apron, she read it… and, this Is what it said:

For cutting the grass: $5.00
For cleaning up my room this week: $1.00
For going to the store for you: $.50
Baby-sitting my kid brother while you went shopping:$.25
Taking out the garbage: $1.00
For getting a good report card: $5.00
For cleaning up and raking the yard: $2.00

Total owed: $14.75

His mother looked at him standing there, and the boy imagined the memories flashing through her mind. She picked up the pen, turned over the paper he had written on, and this is what she wrote:

For the nine months I carried you while you were growing inside me: No Charge
For all the nights that I sat up with you, doctored and prayed for you: No Charge
For the trying times and tears that you’ve caused through the years: No Charge
For nights that were filled with dread, for worries I knew were ahead: No Charge
For the toys, food, clothes, and even wiping your nose: No Charge

Son, when you add it up, the cost of my love is: No Charge.

When the boy finished reading what his mother had written, there were big tears in his eyes, and he looked straight at his mother and said, "Mom, I sure do love you." And then he took the pen and in great big letters he wrote on his side of the paper: “PAID IN FULL”.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NIV

What Is A Mother?

When you're a child she walks before you, to set an example.
When you're a teenager she walks behind you to be there should you need her.
When you're an adult she walks beside you so that as two friends you can enjoy life together.

Mother, you've given me two things:
One is roots, the other's wings.

It is always the right day and a good time to offer a prayer of thanksgiving for our mothers. It is she who has taught us everything: to smile, to walk, to laugh, to pray, to know the Lord, to speak, to live…but more wonderful than these lessons, our mothers have taught us to love and to be loved. As we observe The National Day of Prayer today for our country, let us also include a prayer of praise and thanks for mothers:

Dear God, bless all mothers and grant to them the courage they need to face the uncertain future of today’s world…a world that is challenging all of us. Give us all wisdom and the strength to love and to be loved in return. Amen.

May 7 marks the annual National Day of Prayer for 2020. Despite the coronavirus shutdowns, it won't be canceled or postponed, but it will obviously look very different.

Every year in the past, people typically gathered across the country and participated in over 60,000 local events to pray for America. This year's observation marks its 69th year; it has become a traditional part of the American experience.

Ceremonies and celebrations for a national day of prayer were originally approved by Congress and legally recognized by President Truman in 1952. That law was revised by Congress and signed by President Ronald Reagan in 1988, naming the first Thursday in May each year as the National Day of Prayer.

For this year’s National Day of Prayer 2020 (May 7), millions of people will pray together virtually through online events, giving it the potential to become the largest “prayer gathering" in American history. Just search the web for “The National Day of Prayer 2020” to find an observance viewable in your area.
