When the festivities end, the family and friends return home, and all the decorations removed, we may think it is time to put Christmas away, too…at least until next year.
But, that is when the “real work of” Christmas should begin!
The work of taking the hope and joy that Jesus brings and using it to heal the broken, provide for the needy, bring peace to our communities, and share light in the darkness. After Christmas is over, the real work of the season begins!
When the song of the angels is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and princes are home,
When the shepherd are back with the flocks
Then the work of Christmas begins:
To find the lost,
To heal those broken in spirit.
To feed the hungry,
To release the oppressed
To rebuild the nations,
To bring peace among all peoples,
To make a little music with the heart.
And, to radiate the Light of Christ,
every day, in every way,
in all that we do, and
in all that we say.
Then the work of Christmas begins.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2 ESV
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. James 1:22-26 ESV
