HE MET GOD UNDER THE OCEAN

Stan was born and raised on an island off the coast of Maine. The island was predominantly inhabited by first and second generation Irish immigrants.

Following graduation from high school, he went to a Navy boot camp in Illinois. While there he received a Gideon Testament, presented by the local Gideons. It got shoved into his sea bag, and there it stayed for several years.

Years later in his career, Stan’s life was in shambles. He had begun to drink heavily, and his marriage was in trouble. He began searching for answers, as he realized something was missing in his life—it was void of meaning and purpose.

One day, when on a submarine off the Atlantic coast, Stan remembered the New Testament he had received in boot camp. After a search, he found it and removed it from his sea bag.

He recalls, “I began to read and found in that New Testament things I never knew before. I found that while I was still a sinner, God loved me and sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for me. And there, four hundred feet under the ocean, I surrendered my life to the Lord Jesus Christ.”

You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13 NASB

If I ascend to heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, even there, Your hand will lead me, and Your right hand will lay hold of me.” Psalm 139:8-10 NASB
