GOD'S CREATION
When I was In college at Northwestern University, my dorm sat near the shore of Lake Michigan. Sometimes when I got tired of studying I slipped on a jacket and walked along the lakeshore.
In the blackness of night I could see the thousands of "sparkling diamonds” God hung in the sky. I breathed in the fresh, cold invigorating air that blew in from the lake. I could feel the breeze and taste the cool night air. Everything silently screamed of God’s Creation.
The very first sentence of the Bible (Genesis 1:1) tells us three things:
Everything had a beginning
God already existed
He created the heavens and the earth.
Psalm 19:1 says “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.”
Please notice these words are in the present tense. The heavens “ARE declaring,” and the sky “IS proclaiming” the creative work of God. What we see in nature is meant to constantly show and remind us that God exists, and it tells us how amazing a Creator He truly is.
In Romans 1:20 we read that God has revealed Himself in nature and that no one has an excuse for rejecting Him. A person needs only to look honestly at the world around him/her in order to realize that God does exist.
For example, everywhere we look in nature we find that even the simplest thing — a leaf, a flower, or a simple cell, when put under a microscope, is amazingly complex and needed an “architect” (God).
Sixty years have passed since my time in college. Today the day was gray and it has been raining. But, as I sat in my easy chair and sipped my morning coffee, I heard the flutter of lots of birds and watched them as they winged their way to a bird feeder outside my window.
Millions of snowflakes and raindrops fall. I can smell the cookies when my wife is baking, and my mouth begins to water. My sweater keeps me warm. The scene outside may change, but the awesomeness of what God created doesn’t. Everywhere and all I see silently screams of God’s Creation.
Nothing has changed! I still see God’s handiwork everywhere I look!
